Special Choreography

This past season, all of our special choreography numbers entered in competition won, gold medals, high golds, and absolutes...and most won special awards and high score awards as well. Our first time competitors were invited to nationals where they continued to score gold medals or higher winning even  more special awards as well as high score awards, and judges choice awards..   (check out our competition page)

What is it? Special choreography is intended for students interested in competition.  These numbers  will be added to the annual concert and or  competition at Debbie's discretion.

How do I get involved? No audition is required at this time. Students may request special choreography or may be chosen by the faculty to join a piece. Requests will be reviewed and approved by Debbie.

What is my responsibility? Students must maintain attendance in their regular classes and  must attend all special choreography rehearsals and performances/competitions. Long term injury/illness will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

What are the fees? Students will pay a one-time choreography fee per dance, and a rehearsal fee for each rehearsal. You can expect additional costume expenses as well as fees for competitions.

Note to all special choreography students:

Please see Debbie for rehearsal times and return your permission/ participation forms.

Also, all special choreography fees must be paid up to date for rehearsals to be held. If you have any questions or concerns please call the office  978-667-3452 to make a financial arrangement.

If you have any questions about placement, please call  978-667-3452 to arrange an appointment with Debbie we will be happy to discuss progress and placement with students and parents.

Special note to parents:

All special choreography decisions are  made by Debbie. Please direct your questions and concerns to Debbie. It is best to call or make an appointment so that we can take the appropriate amount of time  to discuss all of your concerns discreetly. The teachers and choreographers  have been asked for feedback/ input  regarding all students, however, Debbie will make all of the final determinations. Parents of  DSDC competitive students will be expected to support all of the decisions and dancers in the special choreography program. No negativity/gossiping toward the faculty, staff, or other dancers will tolerated.

To Students and Parents, things to remember:
It is a compliment to be chosen for ANY number!!!!
It is important to remember that students have been chosen based on their strengths.
If you do not  get a number that you want  it is because  you are not ready yet.. when you are, you will be  chosen.
NO ONE IS ENTITLED TO SPECIAL CHOREOGRAPHY...  EVERY DANCER EARNS HIS OR HER SPOT EACH SEASON. PLEASE REMEMBER THIS!!!

Not everyone can have a solo/duo/trio/quad. Sportsmanship, Ladies!

Decisions  regarding  special choreography are based on YOUR participation in class. Again, you get out of it what you put into it!

Ask yourself  these questions:
Do I practice at home? How much? How often?
(unlimited students)Do I take every class that I can? or do i only pick "fun" classes?
Do I always know my choreography when I come to class/rehearsal?
Am I focused while I am in class/rehearsal?
How is my attendance? Am I on time, prepared to work?
Do I miss classes? Do I arrive late/ leave early? How often?
Do I work in technique class or "get though it"?
Do I accept corrections in class? Apply them?
Do I know my strengths?
Do I know what my weak areas are?
Can I take constructive criticism about my weak areas? Have I improved on my weak areas?
Why do I take class? To learn? or to be in tons of dances in the show?
How are my grades in school? Have I expressed concern over my grades? Have my parents?

***   Try to remember that the greatest compliment a dancer can receive is a correction from the teacher or choreographer. Why? It is because  we know you can do even better and want to help you  achieve your goals. ***
