This schedule is subject to change based on class enrollment and teacher availability. Minimum number of students required is six. PILATES CLASSES ARE OFFERED ON SEVERAL DAYS AND EVENINGS EACH WEEK.

CLASSES:

Ballet  - The foundation of all dance. Highly recommended to every student both recreational and competitive. Available to  Starlets as well as all DSDC ages and ability levels. Proper placement and technique are explored through barre, center, allegro and adagio work. A Variations class is available to all students at intermediate level and above. Pointe work is available to students 11 and up with teacher approval. Ballet technique  classes are available for unlimited students as well as students wishing to intensify study.

Jazz  -  All styles, Broadway, Fosse, Theatrical as well as video dance are explored here. Stylized leaps, turns, and walks all are learned through warm-up, progressions, and center work.  Available to Starlets  as well as all levels of DSDC students. Jazz technique is available  as well.

Tap  - The most rhythmic of all dance forms. Dancers will learn flaps, Cincinatti, timestep and of course buffalo. Available to Starlets as well as all levels of DSDC students.

Lyrical  - Lyrical dance is a combination of ballet technique and jazz movement which relies heavily on the student's ability to connect with the emotion of the music.  Lyrical tells a story through movement. Students at the intermediate level and above are invited to explore lyrical.

Contemporary  - Contemporary incorporates  more modern technique, changing the face of lyrical dance. Different planes and highly athletic movement and body positions  are explored in this very advanced  class.  An Intermediate level Contemporary class has been added to the schedule.

Theater  - This  Jazz class is always fun and of course some acting is involved! Look for references to Broadway and specific characters!! A great way to learn some dance history.

Hip Hop  - All students seem to love our "LA' style hip hop classes. If you've seen it in a video, you might just see it here! All bases are covered: Poppin',  Breakin', Footwork, Fluidity,  etc.

Starlet classes:

Starlet 3 - 4  Creative movement/ Ballet/Tap
Starlet 5 - 6  Ballet and Tap or Jazz
Acro -          available to star 5-7
Hip Hop -      available to star 5-7

Class Levels and Ages

3-6     (Starlets) are all considered to be beginners.

7-10    Mostly beginners, some intermediate work begins here.

11-13  Preteen,(2 levels) beginner as well as intermediate level  work.

13 +     Teen or Senior.
Teen:   (2 levels) beginner or intermediate level work.
Senior:  This is a closed (to open registration) group of students. Advanced level technical skill is required as well as a certain level of maturity, musical interpretation, and individuality.Students at this level often work on their own initiative, require little supervision, and are completely passionate about and dedicated to dance. Not all students reach this level of technical and artistic maturity or interest. For this reason, this class is by teacher invitation only. It is not an automatic progression.

Levels:

Beginner:           Basic technique, limited classwork.

Intermediate:    Technique considerably more intensified, terminology, and execution more stylized and refined. Pre-competitive/competitive

Advanced:
Superior technical skill, musicality, emotional connectivity, as well as artistry. Ability to learn quickly and facilitate technical and artistic skills. Strong knowledge of body placement, terminology, and musicality is required. Competitive.
Note: At times, age and or ability levels are mixed together to produce a layered  effect choreographically. In such cases, a class may be Beg/Int or Int /Adv. Additionally, a student may be a Beginner in one subject while Intermediate or Advanced in another. Each student's dance training will be planned based on the skills that he/she currently brings to the table, and will keep their future goals and interests in mind.
